In September, 2001 the Littleton Public Schools (LPS) Twenty-First Century Task Force was convened with the following charge: To identify the issues involved and develop recommended alternatives for how Littleton Public Schools could respond to changing community "demographics," declining enrollment at selected educational "levels," limited "resources," and increasing student "needs" in order that the highest quality of education be delivered to children within the core values of the community at large.

The June, 2002 73-page Twenty-First Century Task Force report by the 26 members offers a broad spectrum of options (alternatives, not recommendations) for the LPS Board of Education to consider in its future planning.

The Littleton Academy charter school of about 450 K-8 students has fulfilled the "more for less" promise of more student academic achievement for less taxpayer dollars.  Littleton Academy CSAP scores (proficient or advanced) for the past few years have been the highest overall school averages for each of those subjects at nearly every one of the other 16 LPS elementary schools and the other five LPS middle schools.

Centennial Elementary School was renamed to "Centennial Academy of Fine Arts Education" in August, 2003 to reflect an emphasis upon fine arts that began for school year 2002-03.  Comparisons of the CSAP grade-level test results for 2002 (before) and 2005 (three years after) show no overall improvement in academic achievement (59% average proficiency for seven tests for both years).

The LPS district has had no performance pay program since the BoE and superintendent quietly agreed to discontinue the program for administrators a few years ago.  The LPS BoE has been reluctant to have public discussion of performance pay programs for administrators and/or teachers.

The Colorado Department of Education (CDE) publishes the School Accountability Reports (SARs).  On December 7, 2005 CDE released the 2005 SAR SWTS scores for academic performance.  The ICAN SAR Ratings page includes comparable data about Littleton Public Schools and other relatively-large Colorado districts.
