Sep/2000 Incorporation

The City of Centennial (CoC) incorporation election was held on September 12, 2000.  The vote was 21,912 (77%) for incorporation and 6,404 (23%) against incorporation.  The total of 28,316 votes was 48% of the 59,509 active registrations on election day.

Feb/2001 Officials

The Centennial municipal election was held on February 6, 2001.  There were 11 officials elected.  The total turnout of 14,101 was 27% of the 53,101 active registrations on election day.  All terms were subject to reelection on November 6, 2001.

  • Randy Pye received 11,095 (81%) of 13,657 votes for mayor.
  • Claudia Cygnar received 12,738 (100%) of 12,738 votes for city clerk.  The City Council accepted the Claudia Cygnar's resignation on May 24.  Mark Achen was appointed as temporary acting city clerk on May 31.
  • Doug Milliken received 7,415 (57%) of 13,030 votes for city treasurer.
  • Betty Ann Habig received 1,938 (29%) and George Gatseos received 1,608 (24%) of 6,687 votes for City Council Ward I.
  • Bart Miller received 2,120 (27%) and Becky Lennon received 1,896 (24%) of 7,805 votes for City Council Ward II.
  • Jack Forhan received 1,849 (27%) and Andrea Suhaka received 1,422 (21%) of 6,855 votes for City Council Ward III.
  • Betty Wotring received 1,339 (32%) and Alan Fletcher received 928 (22%) of 4,151 votes for City Council Ward IV.

Nov/2001 Officials

The Centennial municipal election was held on November 6, 2001.  There were 10 officials elected.  The terms for mayor and the candidate with the most votes in each ward are for four years; the other terms are for two years.  All officials were sworn in on January 10, 2002.

  • Randy Pye received 17,011 (77%) of 22,006 votes for mayor.
  • There was no candidate for city clerk.  Gwen Burton was selected by vote of the city council on January 3.
  • Doug Milliken received 19,994 (100%) of 19,994 votes for city treasurer.
  • Betty Ann Habig received 4,552 (53%) and George Gatseos received 3,960 (47%) of 8,512 votes for City Council Ward I.
  • Becky Lennon received 4,801 (51%) and Bart Miller received 4,543 (49%) of 9,344 votes for City Council Ward II.
  • Susan Nix received 4,462 (51%) and Andrea Suhaka received 4,360 (49%) of 8,822 votes for City Council Ward III.  Jack Forhan was not a candidate for reelection.
  • Betty Wotring received 3,493 (53%) and Alan Fletcher received 3,039 (47%) of 6,532 votes for City Council Ward IV.

Nov/2003 Officials

The Centennial municipal election was held on November 4, 2003.  Six officials were elected.  The terms for the city council member in each ward are for four years; the terms for city clerk and treasurer are for two years.  All officials were sworn in on January 12, 2004.  In addition, Todd Miller, the winner of the Ward IV election, was appointed by the City Council on November 13 to fill that vacancy for the remainder of the term.

  • Gerry Cummins received 19,256 (100%) of 19,256 votes for city clerk.
  • Doug Milliken received 12,519 (61%) of 20,495 votes for treasurer.
  • Vorry Moon received 1,918 (35%) of 5,422 votes for City Council Ward I.  Incumbent George Gatseos was not a candidate for reelection.
  • Bart Miller received 3,814 (63%) of 6,090 votes for City Council Ward II.
  • Andrea Suhaka received 5,458 (100%) of 5,458 votes for City Council Ward III.
  • Todd Miller received 2,245 (46%) of 4,867 votes for City Council Ward IV.

Nov/2003 Taxes

The Centennial municipal election was held on November 4, 2003.  Ballot Issue 2G on increasing the sales tax and use tax to 2.5% (was 1.5%) and extending the use tax to vehicles (was exempt) passed by a vote of 15,970 (56%) in favor and 12,708 (44%) opposed.  The tax increases took effect on January 1, 2004.  Total sales tax collected in Centennial is 6.45%.  It is composed of the following elements:

  • 2.50% - City of Centennial
  • 2.90% - State of Colorado
  • 0.60% - Regional Transportation District (RTD)
  • 0.10% - Football Stadium (FD)
  • 0.10% - Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD)
  • 0.25% - Arapahoe County

Nov/2005 Officials

The Centennial municipal election was held on November 1, 2005.  Seven officials were elected.  The terms for the mayor and for the city council member in each ward are for four years; the terms for city clerk and treasurer are for two years.  All officials were sworn in on January 9, 2006.  Additional information is on the Centennial 2005 Municipal Election page.

  • Randy Pye received 18,224 (63%) of 29,019 votes for mayor.
  • Goldie Fishbein received 9,284 (39%) of 24,053 votes for city clerk.
  • Doug Milliken received 17,340 (73%) of 23,910 votes for treasurer.
  • Rick Dindinger received 2,172 (33%) of 6,570 votes for City Council Ward I.
  • Sue Bosier received 3,617 (51%) of 7,035 votes for City Council Ward II.
  • Rebecca McClellan received 3,927 (53%) of 7,477 votes for City Council Ward III.
  • Ron Weidmann received 1,720 (30%) of 5,731 votes for City Council Ward IV.

Nov/2007 Officials

The Centennial municipal election was held on November 6, 2007.  Six city officials were elected.  The terms for the city council member in each ward are for four years; the terms for city clerk and city treasurer are for two years.  All officials were sworn in on January 7, 2008.  Additional information is on the Centennial 2007 Municipal Election page.

  • Linda Gawlik received 8,174 (60%) of 13,642 votes for city clerk.
  • Susan Bockenfeld received 5,491 (40%) of 13,773 votes for city treasurer.
  • Betty Ann Habig received 2,369 (51%) of 4,635 votes for City Council Ward I.
  • Keith Gardner received 3,276 (100%) of 3,276 votes for City Council Ward II.
  • Patrick Anderson received 2,534 (77%) of 3,299 votes for City Council Ward III.
  • Todd Miller received 2,542 (100%) of 2,542 votes for City Council Ward IV.

Nov/2007 Home Rule

The Centennial municipal election was held on November 6, 2007.  The Home Rule Charter Commission issue ballot question was decided to pursue status as a home rule city by forming a charter commission.  A vote against a charter commission would have meant Centennial would have remained a statutory city.  On the same day, voters elected 21 members who will serve on the charter commission since the voters approved the formation of the commission.  Information about the 35 candidates is on the Centennial 2007 Municipal Election page.

Nov/2007 Payroll Deduction

The Centennial municipal election was held on November 6, 2007.  The Payroll Deduction issue ballot question was decided to limit the city's payroll deductions to benefit contributions, tax-exempt charities, and deductions required by law or court order.  Additional information is on the Centennial 2007 Municipal Election page.

Jun/2008 Home Rule Charter

The Centennial special home rule charter election was held on June 10, 2008.  The Home Rule Charter issue ballot question was decided to adopt the proposed home rule charter [PDF 187KB]

Nov/2009 Officials

The Centennial municipal election will be held on November 3, 2009.  Five city officials will be elected.  The terms are four years for the mayor (elected at large) and for the city council member in each of the four districts.  Mayor Randy Pye is term-limited.  All officials probably will be sworn in on January 4, 2010 for their new terms.  Additional information is on the Centennial official website page for 2009 FCPA (Fair Campaign Practices Act) filings.  As of September 11, ten persons have filed their required documents (candidate affidavit, committee registration, etc.):

  • Mayor: Todd Miller, Cathy Noon, Greg Schoenfeld, and Michael Weber.
  • District 1: Rick Dindinger (incumbent).
  • District 2: Sue Bosier (incumbent) and Scott Watters.
  • District 3: Cindy Combs and Rebecca McClellan (incumbent).
  • District 4: Ron Weidmann (incumbent).

A Centennial special election will be held on November 3, 2009.  One city official will be elected.  The election for the District 1 council member to replace Betty Ann Hamilton (who resigned August 15, 2009 due to her no longer living in District 1) is for the remainder of her four-year term.  That official probably will be sworn in soon after the election results are certified.  Additional information is on the Centennial official website page for 2009 FCPA (Fair Campaign Practices Act) filings.  As of September 11, seven persons have filed their required documents (candidate affidavit, committee registration, etc.): Peter Cooney, Gary Furnee, Michael Hall, Sonni Marbury, Vorry Moon, Ron Phelps, and Sharon West.
