The Colorado Model Content Standards represent the fundamental knowledge and skills Coloradoans expect that students should possess at various intervals as they move through their educational careers. The Colorado Department of Education (CDE) is the best source for information about these requirements. In 1993, the Colorado General Assembly enacted legislation aimed at bringing about coordinated improvement in the performance and accountability of the state's K-12 education system. House Bill 93-1313 requires school districts to redesign curriculum, instruction, testing and teacher development around academic standards that spell out what students should know and be able to do. Current Colorado Model Content Standards for grades K-12:
CDE announced [PDF 54KB] on May 7, 2009 the public release of DRAFTS of four Colorado academic standards: Mathematics [PDF 827KB]; Music [PDF 875KB]; Reading, Writing and Communicating [PDF 644KB]; and Science [PDF 635KB]. More information about the K-12 Colorado Model Content Standards Review process is available at its CDE website page.
